Re: Playtesting is winning me over to Hope 2.0

Perhaps a bit of wording in the rules might have alleviated all the angst - "players should use hope for inspired rolls, but are free to spend it on non-inspired rolls if they so choose"... ?

Re: Alpha Feedback - More Special Damage Options

Not trying to be controversial (I backed the KS after all), but all this talk about spending successes for special effects, and in other threads how the TN seems to high for starting characters, etc, etc - it has just made me consider why even use this system? Genesys would handle all this very well...

Re: 1-on-1 gaming

I would suggest having a couple of companion NPCs, but also to play those very loosely. Don't even bother rolling for them, unless it's a critical juncture and you're not sure of the outcome. You will be overloaded with things to keep track of, and that's no fun for your player. Instead, just eyebal...

Re: One Ring - colour blind

This won't help with the printed product, but with a PDF you absolutely should be able to adjust your settings to make the document useable. Your PDF reader might have some settings, or your operating system (you should probably have these set anyway, if you are colour bind). On a Mac it's in Access...

Re: Spear Nerf

What would the real-world advantage of a spear be? Historically it was an extremely common and popular weapon, that has endured from antiquity arguably right through to the modern day with the bayonet fixed to an assault rifle. I think the advantage is reach - that you can attack your enemy before t...

Re: Combat: Shouldn't armour protect against Endurance Loss

You will just have to get used to describing it differently ;) Ha - I'm am used to it, from Forbidden Lands. I think I'd be OK with this system if Endurance loss pushes you more and more towards taking a Piercing blow. Two combatants wear each other down, eventually one of them lands the killing bl...

Re: Combat Focus...

Yes, good point. What the heck do you roll when an enemy is searching for the PCs? Is it just Loremaster fiat?

A nice approach might be to just give a flat rating to each of the skill groups for each adversary - Personality, Movement, Perception, Survival, Custom, Vocation.

Re: Combat: Shouldn't armour protect against Endurance Loss

As someone who's studied several armed martial arts, including fencing and 15th C sword-n-board... given the definition of what endurance is, no, armor absolutely should NOT reduce Endurance loss . If anything, it should increase it. Endurance loss isn't actual injury. You can recover it all with a...

Re: Combat: Shouldn't armour protect against Endurance Loss

But what does it mean when a successful attack hits? It could just mean being kicked, hit with sword pommel in the face, etc. It's the wearing down and exhausting of the combatant through fancy sword play, head butts etc. until they finally slip up big time and you run them through (Piercing-blow)....

Re: Combat: Shouldn't armour protect against Endurance Loss

Yes I understand what endurance is representing, but it it fails to make sense in the situation I mentioned, where two characters are both hit by enemies with swords and take exactly the same damage regardless of the armour they wear unless there’s a piercing blow. I’m just not sure how I would rela...
