Re: What is a Zone?

Basically, the size of a zone is "whatever makes sense" given the situation. It can be hard to switch over to more abstract systems of maps and measurements, especially if you're used to games that use grids. When I ran Hope's Last Day, I treated every block as a zone. If there was a longish corrido...

Re: Expanding Hopes Last Day?

I was thinking about doing exactly this, as I felt the character agendas in Hope's Last Day jump too quickly to the end game. (Though to be fair, the scenario is very clearly presented as an example of what Act 3 of a cinematic scenario might look like.) As an experiment, I wrote Act 2 agendas for t...

Maps of Fiorina 161?

Pretty much what it says in the title. I'm wondering if anyone has, or knows where to find, maps of Fiorina "Fury" 161, especially the Class C Work Correctional Unit. Thanks.

Campaign Mode Examples

Any Game Mothers running the ALIEN RPG in campaign mode? If so, would you mind sharing what you're doing as an example for the rest of us? I really like the Cinematic Mode of the ALIEN RPG and bought the core book after playing (and then running) Chariot of the Gods. I think it's a fantastic scenari...

Re: Close combat and xenomorphs

Maybe don’t let them block with a cutting torch? Rules for blocking say you must have a “sturdy weapon or tool”. I have a hard time picturing someone successfully blocking a xenomorph attack with a small handheld tool.
Good point.

Re: Close combat and xenomorphs

What game mode and what scenario are you playing?  You mention there's always one "brave character" because of agendas, so I'm curious about the type of game you're playing. Also, you say that your players (and you) have watched a lot of horror movies, so know not to split the party. But what about ...

Re: Close combat and xenomorphs

My first thought is: are you using the acid splash rules? In the Hope's Last Day game I ran a few days ago, one heroically PC dove for a bolt gun and then shot a xenomorph at near point-blank range for a whopping 4 points of damage. The resulting acid splash (12 dice total) reduced them to 0 Health,...

Re: Hadleys Hope north wall

Yup. I'm pretty sure that the north wall is just a wind block. I remember reading (somewhere) that the wind on LV-426 always comes from the same direction. At least where Hadley's Hope is located.
