Re: Human Cultures, Slavery

My general impression is that, as a shorthand , in terms of technology and culture the Aslene are like a combination of Vikings and Mongols from the Dark Ages; the Alderlanders are like Saxons from the Dark Ages. Just a note that my inspiration for the Aslene mostly came from the Parthians and Scyt...

Re: Waterskin/Quiver/Backpack

I know im getting into the realism vs game debate here, but in my experience water is heavy to carry. especially when you have to carry a lot to survive a few days. Absolutely. Carried water is counted as a normal item for encumbrance. Or to put it differently, the waterskin has no encumbrance beyo...

Re: Human Cultures, Slavery

Yeah, I don't think the nomadic Aslenes (particularly the Galdenes) would have all that much use for slaves so it's probably something they don't engage in. Though it probably wouldn't be strange for them to sell captives as slaves to other people if they're going that way anyway. Settled Aslenes ar...

Re: Boats

I am still thinking about this.  I allowed my players three hexes a quarter. But I think in rivers against the tide, it’s more likely to be walking pace, the real advantage Rivers confer is the transportation on cargo, not speed. At sea it would be different. Perhaps. Depends on the wind too. Yeah,...

What kind of map travel speeds are you guys giving various water craft? I’m particularly interested in the sailboats.

I gave my players 3 hexes on a river in a canoe going with the current but that felt a little generous.

Re: Waterskin/Quiver/Backpack

Water skin is an assumed piece of equipment you have (36). One doesn’t necessarily need to be written down though I might include it in notes. A spare one could very well be useful to have. I can definitely see making someone lose one as a result of a journeying mishap for example. Gear for carrying...

Re: aquiring talents and Wits roll

Specifically with magic talents, finding instruction seems incredibly important. Even raw has it cost 3x xp without a teacher. Making a wits roll and having to spend time practicing isn’t much of a hurdle. I haven’t had any complaints yet. I’m also careful to note times where NPCs have offered train...

Re: XP Cap?

What's a reasonable amount of XP per session? 10 seems like a lot.

There’s a guide on page 39 of phb. 3 is probably the average session. Sometimes 4, sometimes 2 or even 1.

Re: Session Prep?

For an early session I’d have a couple random encounters ready. I don’t find myself rolling for them much but putting together my own using the table as inspiration and consider where in the map they are for predominant kin. Considering where your players are, I would want to have an adventure site ...
