Re: Safe Casting

I’d also say that if you go into combat encounters where you have less than 0.5% chance of having at least one pc dying then you guys are playing a very low challenge game.

Re: Quarter days

More for me than others I do a similar timing but I use 4-10, 10-16, 16-22, 22-4. For the players though I’ll just say where the sun is, what quarter day it is, I don’t use any specific time descriptions.

Re: Rolling for Lore

To be clear: I'd let the party roll for lore whatever their background is. I'm saying that for helping dice I might not allow it if it's say a Wolfkin trying to recall something about Alderlander heraldry from across the divide. I'm also talking more about background than backstory. I like my charac...

Re: Rolling for Lore

Yeah, so (surprise surprise) I largely agree with Fenhorn. I would do a single lore roll for the party. If I think character backgrounds support it, they could help the one taking the test. With successes I give useful information, perhaps it's a clue that'll make an adventure site easier or give a ...

Re: Increasing Talent Costs

I rather like attributes not being able to be raised. When you're young you're at the peak of your physical powers, as you get older sure you can become more effective through training and skill but your raw potential will never be the same. It's a very valuable trade-off in character generation tha...

Re: Being prone

Have any of you house ruled that it is still possible to attack while prone? Or that ranged attacks suffer a negative modification for shooting at a prone target? RAW you can SHOVE while prone. Generally I wouldn't allow an attack while prone with a weapon except under specific circumstances, cramp...

Re: Animals and magic that does not affect monsters

So the animal list isn’t part of the monster list. Boars are definitely not monsters unless you create your own demon boar.

As for horrify I still wouldn’t apply it to an animal. In this case its fight or flight in response to fear has already been triggered and it went for fight.

Re: Safe Casting

Magic mishaps are generally not that big of a risk. Yes there’s the possibility of catastrophic failure but in actual play it very rarely comes out as that. I’ve had mishaps that actively helped the party.

Re: Q: Broken + Cold

Magic can heal him from broken with cold, the skill can’t. You need to get him warm before he can recover normally. I’d allow that to happen in the same quarter day if the party already has a camp setup (and presumably a fire with it) but that means not resting while the camp is being established bu...
