Re: Is shield better to parry then sword?

Short answer is yes. Swords are great defensively but a guy with an axe and a shield is something to fear. Luckily, shields are also a pain the arse to haul around so a sword is still the queen of sidearms. :)

Re: Handling Henchmen

Yeah, I feel like it’s worth saying that the hirelings costs can be whatever you want and makes sense for the situation. A share of the loot would make more sense I think in most situations as actual money wages would probably be pretty rare.

Re: Handling Henchmen

That's basically what I was suggesting, yep. It's not about forcing anything. Generally speaking it's a good idea to lump npcs together like this as well so you're not taking a bunch of turns for npcs. There's no hard and fast rule for when to do this but if you feel like an action scene would be sl...

Re: Handling Henchmen

Do what you’d do with NPC bands. Have them “help” that is they use their slow action to add a skill die to the players’ rolls. If I recall right you can have up to three skill dice from help like this.

Re: Play by post and xp

I’d say 2-3 for a three or four hour session is probably average. I like to be a little more miserly than that because once you give it you can never take it back.

Re: On the economy of the Raven Lands (or are you paying your laborers too much?)

Yeah, they aren’t making a 5 copper wage. That’s just a simple abstraction for you “keeping them” that is paying for their shelter, food, etc. Maybe they get a coin here and there but it’s unlikely most farmers in Ravenland have much access to coins even at the best of times.

Re: BERSERKER talent and poison, frost IE

Yeah, I think in combat, I'd rule that you can trigger beserk when you would have been broken such that you get x strength back but the poison keeps in effect until you collapse and then apply the critical injury where you're unconscious. Basically it would let you fight through it a little bit long...

Re: BERSERKER talent and poison, frost IE

I’d allow it in combat. That is, while in combat if the damage that breaks you is from poison you can use the talent as described. But once you get into larger time segments it wouldn’t matter. You might be able to fight through the poison for a couple minutes but not in the scale of turns or quarte...

Re: The Bitter Reach Beta has dropped

(no PCs start with new magic talents) Is this a rule I missed somewhere? Where is it noted no pc starts with magic talent? Nowhere. Elemental magic is considered rare so I guess that Ebrim won't let any player start with it, they have to learn in game. That way, they players will get the feeling th...

Re: Sneak attacks and Range

I feel like it’s always worth saying that the only class in Forbidden Lands is adventurer. Whatever you were before is just background. :)
