I would also allow the android player to ignore the stress result but this would then reveal them as an android.
Well, to be fair, the players would know but their characters might not...

I was toying with something like that... count the minimum number of corners needed to make a "perfect" run and you've got your number of Scouting successes needed. It really depends on whether you want them to face one of those tigers though... I'd say a "quick run" would be 3 successes and "hard" ...

I had my group meet "The Dwarf Balloon Pilot" (random encounter #16) in the opening session and, in thanks for rescuing him from the tree, he gave them a "rough" aerial  map of the Raven Lands (i.e. the game map). It's enough to navigate by but missing critical details :)

I made a religion hand out for my group so they had a hot clue... I figured they would at least know that.
Working on a Kin handout to give them the basics... everything else they'll find out in game as I had them get exiled over the Iron Lock in their first session.

I think just the 1d3... my watch word for rulings in this system is always default to the hardest setting. If they'd meant for there to be more damage for more light, I think the rules would have said 1d per light source or make an attack with a number of dice equaling the number of light sources. B...

I'd say half... unless they have a copper lantern ;) Personally, I wouldn't give them a Gear die (more chance to succeed!) but I would make them roll for the Consumable depletion after the encounter (broke torch, spilled the oil, etc.) Whenever I'm in doubt I tend towards the harsher rulings... Like...
