Re: What axes can be used for wood gathering?

Depends on the purpose. For stronghold functions, they’ll want a saw or lumber axe. If they’re just trying to put some torches together or make a shelter I’d say a hand axe is good. Fighting axes aren’t made for that purpose and could be used but I’d say with risk of damaging the weapon. Interestin...

Re: Safe Casting

Magic mishaps are generally not that big of a risk. Yes there’s the possibility of catastrophic failure but in actual play it very rarely comes out as that. I’ve had mishaps that actively helped the party. There are no other areas in the system where rolling 1-6-6 means instant death. You can't pos...

Re: Feedback on Homebrewed Talents for Safer Casting

I have been thinking a lot about this as I play a sorcerer in our current campaign and I died throwing a 1-dice spell in a trivial situation. Everyone felt that was thoroughly unsatisfying and shouldn't be possible. What we came up with was a house rule that said, if you cast a spell at power level ...

Re: "Defender" general talent proper ruling

I don't follow your argument. The "not count as more than one action" is not relevant if you never spent the one action in the first place.

Re: Forbidden Lands for new players

I think the main thing is aligning expectations. What type of play is everyone expecting? Do you want lots of acting and improvisation? Number crunching? Saving maidens? Slaying monsters? World building? How about between-player conflicts? Etc. All of these are entirely valid ways to do roleplaying ...

Re: Willpower and house rules?

I see several threads on the topic so maybe I was too quick to start another one :D Seems plenty of good ideas and thoughts around, as well as some house rules. Making sure a spellcaster isnt defenseless without WPs, and maybe allowing everyone to start with 1 point. The first thing you have to rea...

Re: Magic Guide

If you have Rank 1 in a Talent and cast a Rank 1 spell from a Grimoire with 1 WP you don't have to roll any base dice right?
To be more specific: if you use 1 WP to cast a rank 1 spell using a grimoire while being rank 1, by default you roll 1 die, but you can choose to roll 0 dice.

Re: Whoa! Some big rules changes in your inbox

Misfire is equally dangerous, yes, but a WP 1 spell (≈17%) has much less chance of causing a misfire than a WP 10 spell (≈84%). Sure, and I think the mishaps in general are well done and makes for interesting play. But the fact is that even rolling a single dice gives you an ~1% (0.85) chance to su...

Re: Whoa! Some big rules changes in your inbox

Yeah, I love it. The new kin talent for goblins seems much more interesting and thematic. And the changes to bind magic are simple yet sufficient. My only real gripe left with the rules now is that magic mishaps are equally dangerous when you roll a bane on your single die casting light as when you ...
