Exploring Ruins

How would you design a ruined city for your players to explore? Would you: map the entire city with mini hexes, place interesting locations inside a rough outline of the ruins, something else? Then, how would you let them explore those ruins? Would you:  place encounters in each mini-hex, treat it l...

Re: Lands of Perpetual Suffering?

It's definitely meant to be difficult! It's all part of the old school beliefs that 'Challenge is good' and 'Expect to die'. Compare that with the heroic fantasy of the newer editions of D&D where it's extremely difficult to die and travelling is more about having fights with random encounters than ...

Re: Multiple and Critical Successes

Thanks for your thoughts. I tried to stick to the format of stunts and critical successes from other Year Zero games, so as not to move away from the Fria Ligan design philiosphy too much.   Sharing successes, which happens in other Year Zero games, is only supposed to happen when it makes narrative...

Re: One-on-one/duet campaign

I don’t think a five as a partial success would work, but buying successes with WP is a good idea.

Multiple and Critical Successes

https://imperiousrexhome.files.wordpress.com/2019/02/double-six-dice.jpg?w=300&h=225 I know people have already discussed this here , but I wrote  some ideas for using multiple successes outside of combat and journeying. You can read them on my blog  here . They haven't been playtested yet. Please ...

Re: One-on-one/duet campaign

Sorry Tom, At the end of the day change any rule that makes it more fun for both GM and player, and have fun. Personally I would keep successes to a six only as that keeps the tension at the table but I would totally give her some starting xp to spend on talents or skills to even the odds and some ...

Re: One-on-one/duet campaign

9littlebees: I agree with everything you wrote! Lupex:  I was not suggesting completely rewriting the rules. I was asking for advice about one rule change.  We game every two weeks with some friends, so she does experience group gaming. One-on-one gaming can be very satisfying. For interesting arti...

Re: One-on-one/duet campaign

It depends on the type of game you want to play. Forbidden Lands is not really made for a skill use heavy type of game; its aesthetic is old school hex crawling the wilderness & combat. You could certainly set a game in a city or town where your wife plays a character like a Rogue and gets into all...

Horses and resources

Does anyone both keeping a resource die for food for PCs’ horses? On plains they can feed themselves but they would need to carry their own food in forests and mountains.

Re: One-on-one/duet campaign

Letting her succeed on 5+ would be a good idea, in my opinion. But then I think that should be done in any game, not just a one on one =) I agree, but can you explain a bit more about why you think that? What are the reasons and the consequences? I imagine that would mean less need to push rolls an...
