Re: Questions about Willpower Points

I think you're overthinking it. You should totally separate player knowledge from character knowledge here, and just treat WP as a metacurrency. 1. NPCs don't use Transfer, because the GM has a common WP pool for them all. If you really want to tie this in the narrative, have NPCs use Transfer just ...

Re: Orcs as Kin, not fodder

The way I see it, orcs are indeed more nuanced and not "evil", but they could definitely turn to pillaging since they don't really have places and resources of their own. It makes sense to me to use a module where orcs are the "baddies", maybe just adding some nuances of moral gr...

Re: Too many WP

Seansicle's houserule seems fine, I'd consider using it if that problem arises in my game. Here's another possibility, a bit more narrative in style (reminiscent of Fate and Genesys): When the GM describes a new scene, or when a combat starts, players can spend 1 WP to describe a detail in the scene...

Re: Monster balance question...

Why would unarmed, fledgling adventurers go toe to toe with a larger group of armed Urhur orcs? Sounds to me like they're nurturing a deathwish :D Combat in FbL (as in M:Y0) is fast and lethal. It is often better to flee to fight another day, especially if the odds are against you, than to stand an...

Re: Playing TftL with a single player

In this case, the player would be an adult who is new to RPGs but enjoys stories of mystery/investigation. I wanted to use TftL as a gateway drug to RPGs :) Good suggestions, I think giving the PC a friend that helps but is otherwise passive could be good. Or modifying the mystery to make sure most ...

Playing TftL with a single player

Hello!
I'm considering playing Tales from the Loop with a single player. Has anyone tried that before? What do you think are pitfalls to avoid or important things to focus on when you can't rely on interactions between PCs or teamwork?

I have to agree that the idea of a shared debt, common goal or web of relationships would be very appreciated

Re: Weatherstone

I think blueman raises some valid points. One thing I didn't appreciate with Weatherstone was how linear it was and how few interesting possibilities for interaction it offered. With the notable exception of when to awaken the dead (the "undead on/undead off" descriptions are great), the a...

Re: Question about stacking initiative and other ones about map stickers

Yeah, I think I'll stick the stickers on small cardboard or plastic chips, and then stick these tokens with sticky paste on the map to be able to reuse them. Plus, it can make some nice 3d props on the map.

Re: Adventure sites

Since the system is built for hexcrawling anyway, I suggest picking up other good hexcrawls and stealing sites and encounters from them. That includes Hot Springs Island (high fantasty), Slumbering Ursine Dunes (weird), a lot of the Lamentations of the Flame Princess product line (good but often exp...
