Re: YZ Ark rules for colonies/ships?

Developing your own colony and spaceship should, of course, be a part of an Alien RPG. I would also add rules for developing your own space station (Sevastopol Station style). It should be possible to just add more modules (and other stuff too). It could also be cool with rules for running your own ...

Narrative tools

There are certain things, people or  buildings that makes things Alien.  But not only that;  this  stuff makes something to the game.  That is why the head line of this thread is "N arrative tools". I have a few ideas. Here is the first one: the corporate archive. Such an archive should be full of ...

Re: Why the original Gigeresque vision still matters to the entire setting

Thanks, Oreh. I totally agree. What I would like to see more of in the Alien RPG is the terrifying body horror from the first movie. I think that is what the Gigersque, biomechanical contribution to this franchise is all about. But how should it be used to develop the RPG setting? Body horror can co...

Re: Space Truckers, mostly Alien-free, UNTIL...

I would say that a campaign in the ALIEN RPG could do fine without the xenomorphs. There are several other core themes within the franchise. Personally, I would prefer to include the xenomorphs in some way. Perhaps without the usual violent confrontation on a spaceship or in a remote colony... I wou...

Re: Why the original Gigeresque vision still matters to the entire setting

Thanks, Byrax. After having a closer look at Giger´s art, I actually understood the entire Alien franchise in a new way. I think his contribution came from a very none Hollywood direction, even though some of his work obviously became a part of this commercial franchise. I wonder how much Fox/Disney...

Why the original Gigeresque vision still matters to the entire setting

The Swiss artist H. R. Giger was a part of the team that created the first Alien film. He was brought into the production because Ridley Scott liked his art book Necronomicon . Some of the creatures from that surreal and Lovecraft inspired book were changed only slightly to become the xenomorph we a...

Re: What's wrong with the Alien franchise – and how it can be fixed

Neill Blomkamp, apparently, has some awesome ideas for new Alien franchise movies. He was posting some great concept art to his Instagram a year or two ago. That's when Ridley came in and started his prequel stuff. Fingers crossed we get a chance to see something from him. I think Blomkamp is a ver...

Xenomorphs that are not XX121

There are other creatures in space than just the brand aliens, also known as XX121. Some beings are mentioned in the canonized novels and short stories. What I miss are other xenomorphs that aren't just constantly aggressive predators. In the Lovecraft mythos, which is a thematic base for the origin...

Re: Share your on-theme campaign Ideas

My current thought for Alien is to not tell the players that we're playing the Alien RPG. I might just say were using some similar rules as Forbidden Lands in a homebrew sci-fi setting and spend most of the sessions dealing with various underworld figures, competing smugglers, and law enforcement t...

Re: What's wrong with the Alien franchise – and how it can be fixed

I now understand that I should have been more clear about why I started this thread. What I wanted to discuss is simply: how can the Alien franchise be fixed? I suggested the introduction of new genres: tech noir (that's why I even mentioned Bladerunner ), Mob drama and Heist. To switch genre is, I ...
