Re: Why the original Gigeresque vision still matters to the entire setting

By now, we know that the biomechanical Engineer technology was at least mentioned in the basic rule set. Today, I noticed the new technology of ”xenobots”, that was just recently developed in a lab: https://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/scientists-create-first-living-robots-made-entirely-of-...

Re: Campaign Mode Examples

Is the sandbox concept really that open for different interpretations? I would say no. It’s a quite obvious metaphor: it’s a framed area. You can’t miss what’s inside and what’s outside. That’s the main idea. Maybe you can go outside, perhaps to other sandboxes, but then you are somewhere else, outs...

Re: Campaign Mode Examples

I’m sure what you mention can be created from the basic rule set. But is it really a sandbox? I would rather say it’s a trip to only one adventure site. That’s a railroaded scenario, not a sandbox campaign. I’d say a sandbox has to contain more - both in terms of locations and possible events. You c...

Re: Campaign Mode Examples

Have you read Mutant Year Zero or any of the other games in the Year Zero line? I have, so that’s where I’m coming from. As you know, the Alien RPG is also a part of the Year Zero line. The basic rule set is basically the same in all games in the line. But there are also some quite big differences. ...

Re: Campaign Mode Examples

Alright, so if I may interrupt... There's two choices, which will depend on what suits you, your players and your vision of a campaign better. Either start with a secret or locale that's going to be the heart of your campaign, as Bengt suggests, and build out from there, making your other missions ...

Re: Is the thematic core of the Alien franchise Marxist and Feminist?

Alien does indeed feature rampant capitalism and have a company as arguably a co-antagonist. But it doesn't have any Marxist themes.  Yep.  Having the bad guys be rampant capitalists doesn't automatically equate to 'Marxism = good'. And I don't really think Alien comes under the cyberpunk genre. Wh...

Re: Is the thematic core of the Alien franchise Marxist and Feminist?

Interesting, YellowSignI agree that Aliens have another ideological touch than the other movies. It’s like a Vietnam war movie in space. A blockbuster action genre gone sci fi. Riggswolf, I would say that the critique against capitalism has a Marxist tone. Actually, the space truckers in the first m...

Re: Is the thematic core of the Alien franchise Marxist and Feminist?

First, a quote from the Wikipedia article about the Alien franchise: ”Throughout the series, an ensemble of characters are repeatedly manipulated by and put in harm's way by the greedy, unscrupulous, megacorporation Weyland-Yutani Corp which seeks to capture the Aliens for bio-weaponization purposes...

Re: Campaign Mode Examples

What do you mean by ”fundamental plot”? I’m saying that Alien is a franchise with obvious genre conventions. Is that a lie? This is getting silly.
