Re: Ad Astra space combat questions

and J guess if you are in space or hanging outside a spaceship and fire a lowtech homemade-rifle you will fly backwards from the recoil and maybe start tumble? Basically, failing on any roll based on Strength or Agility (like Shoot) in 0G means you start to Tumble (page 101). This is meant to emula...

Re: Ad Astra space combat questions

That’s the exact vibe I was going for. Broadsides with scrap cannons or people in cobbled together space suits with rocket sticks going on a boarding mission (and missing their target, entering a long orbit around the sun :))

Re: Ad Astra space combat questions

Author here. First, space combat is obviously not the focus of the campaign, so the rules are more for GMs who want to branch out. That said, I think you've hit the right spot. When you roll for damage effects and roll an area that has 0, the result above it applies, which means that area instead lo...

Re: Super powers in Year Zero Engine

I’ve looked at super zero now and while it does look nice, I’m not sure that it’s quite my thing. The tension rules seem a bit off balance (which seems to be confirmed by your experiences).

Lots of things to be inspired by, though.

That is exactly what I was looking for, thanks! Have you played it?

Re: Super powers in Year Zero Engine

I’ve played quite a bit with the different versions of the engine and absolutely agree with your suggestions. I think that while the somewhat erratic nature of push-effect-powered powers is pretty good for some powers, I would like to have some more at-will style, like super strength, super speed, e...

Super powers in Year Zero Engine

Has anyone attempted to make a super hero game using the Year Zero rules? I think it would fit well for a game in the style of The Boys or Wildcards but I don’t quite see how to do super power mechanics. I’m currently thinking of using the die pool version and then reserve the higher die types for s...

Re: Space was already full of mutants?

That sounds like a good way to go with your campaign. Note though that most of the imagery and further descriptions includes mutated humans and animals, so if you limit the mutations to only a few you still have the problem that you won't really be able to use some of the book (in particular the ima...

Re: Space was already full of mutants?

While I disagree about it not being a coherent story, I agree that it changes the tone and I think you are right that the feeling of the setting was prioritized over a strictly coherent narrative. But, just to argue the case, I actually do think the narrative holds up as well even though it’s not qu...
