Since not all monster attacks are created equal, what about letting a monster choose an attack for a WP instead of rolling?

Food: shelf life is only relevant in storage. On a character you only track the resource die, wether it got bad, you ate it or you lost it.

Water: if you have d12 water plus 10 units of water and you roll a 1-2 on the die, you have d12 water and 9 units of water.

If you wear kevlar or similiar modern body armor, a bullet will most likely not penetrate through it. But the sheer impact will still cause major bruising and even break ribs sometimes.

Melee The ability to cause injury rolls prior to being Broken is a usage of the axe fighter talent and so would weaken the talent with these houserules. Raising initiative by 2 is cool but seems clunky woth the initiative card system. Crafting Weakens all the Crafting talents. Stealth Stealth group...

On some level I agree it's pretty weird and so I would change it to that they become the target of a single or a pack of predatory animals. In my mind it would be a shortcut since all magic, even druidic magic, comes with a risk of going horribly wrong and it's limited by WP.
Of course if Dwarf uses magic when no PCs are present it doesn't cost any WP or cause a mishap.

Next time I run a campaign, I'm going to let my players start with 2 WP (only first session). It was pretty frustrating for my players when they had picked these talents that were unavailable for more than half of the session and relying on chance to start utilising their class.

You aren't required to buy the special dice, it's abolutely optional (I don't use them myself). All you need are d6s of 3 different colors and 1 of each of the standard d8-d12.
