Re: Campaign idea that needs advice

I don't know if you are planning to use TOR or 5e. But the Star of the Mist landmark on p222 in the 5e core book is a pretty fun first adventure supposedly for level 1 heroes. I say supposedly because almost any enemy can one-shot a level 1 hero and the pre-written adventure suggests one bandit per ...

Re: Barding character creation help

I believe the hero does get a starting virtue, see page 28 in the CORE book. Bardings get a Cultural Trait called "Starting Virtue", it clearly says "You gain one cultural virtue of your choice (see page 80)." The hero would then get more virtue options later at higher levels as...

Re: Peoples of Wilderland (5e) is out!

I would say email support for both issues.

I got my 5e drivethrurpg.com link for 5e wilderland today, but I had to email twice (first time they sent wrong link)- and it took several days turnaround.

Re: Peoples of Wilderland (5e) is out!

same, got a response to my email this morning, and links to TOR pdf from DriveThruRpg tonight but not the 5e pdf, trying again with another email to Free League support - seems weird that this is such a manual process

Re: Solo Reviews?

That is some great input, exactly what I was looking for. I would solo to get a feel before trying to GM it for a group (if I can find enough interest and I thought it was worth it after seeing the solo experience). I've never tried a Year Zero engine rpg before and saw that the solo rules were incl...

Solo Reviews?

Haven't bought this one yet, but it might be my next one ... I'm specifically wondering from anyone who has actually tried playing solo, how would you rate it for fun, say 1-10 and please compare to your "best" highest-rated rpg for solo-play. Just looking for fun factor, don't need an in-...

Re: Players can't seem to grasp the "feel" of Tolkien

I don't have an idea for the initial outline yet, but I'll think about it, maybe try to address stereotypes up front or at least early (i.e. I had a player who believed that a Dwarf carrying a Bow was anti-Tolkien). I do think examples and comparisons to the movies (both LOTR and Hobbit) would gain ...

Re: Where are the spiders?

Earlier in this post, you said "official or otherwise", so I'll chime in some otherwise: Lord of the Rings Online, a video MMO game that has been around for many years has giant spiders in multiple places all over Eriador. So since you are not constrained by the books/movies, maybe knowing...

Re: Players can't seem to grasp the "feel" of Tolkien

Yeah this whole topic has got us thinking- I empathize with JLanden in the original post, we all know how much effort goes into preparation for the LM/DM/GM of RPGs, and for that person, a differnt type of player but still a player, to not be having fun session after session- that stinks. I would fe...
