Re: Magical Success and Blessing Dice

I think smith tools (or any other kind of tools) would only have that tool proficiency. For example: Smith Tools of smith tools and leatherworking tools does not make sense to me. Smith Tools of smith tools and persuasion does not make sense to me either. Nor would Jeweler's Tools of woodcarving too...

Re: Magical Success and Blessing Dice

I've been doing word searches in the pdf to get all of the examples for this and I am putting them down here for the benefit of myself and others, because it is not easy to keep all of this straight. - Magical success can be granted by a cultural trait, virtue or artifact. - It seems the player can...

Re: Question regarding TfE (no spoilers) and Hunting

As a player, I can go with either, but I prefer a path to a sandbox. The DM, not the players, should be running the adventure, IMO. As a DM, I greatly prefer a path, because if you run a sandbox, the preparation is so much more work. With a path, the DM decides what happens next. It's the DM's job t...

Re: Lore Dice

In the D20 system, the Critical hit/automatic success on a "20" or an automatic miss/fail on a "1" is meant for the d20 only, not any other bonus dice. This rule only applies to attacks and saving throws, not ability checks. If you include the bonus dice, you can never have a &qu...

Re: My own Player Aid

Ideally, you should submit your work to Free League. Then, if they like it, they can publish it and you get paid. Or they may say we don't want to publish it, but its okay for you to offer it for free (or maybe even grant you license to publish for profit). Or they may even say nope, we can't allow ...

Re: 5e Character Balance and Journey (new dm)

House rule for my table: Once they are out of the journey phase and into the adventuring phase, the rule of no long rests no longer applies. They may camp a distance away from the ruins and take a long rest, and enter the ruins the next day. Its common practice to stop short and rest before a battle.

Re: Why are Guides not possible targets during Journeys?

My reasoning is that the Guide is under no jeopardy whatsoever. Even if the Guide rolls poorly and the journey takes longer, the Guide will never be the brunt of a bad result. Only the Hunter, Look-out and Scout may get harmed, while the Guide is completely immune. Seems unfair to me.

Re: 5e Character Balance and Journey (new dm)

Even with an "Easy" combat scenario, if you don't fudge the dice (I don't), even a fairly weak enemy can take a level 1 player-hero from FULL HP to ZERO with a single hit. It happened to a 5 player company I was taking through their initial trial of LOTR 5e recently. We were about 5 hours...

Re: Why are Guides not possible targets during Journeys?

I think I'll probably include Guides, but make it a weighted roll.
Something like:
1) Guide
2-3) Explorer
4-5) Hunter
6) Look-out

Seems to me explorers and hunters are more likely to get into a fix or spot something inspiring. Guides and look-outs are less active.

Re: A kind of error in Ruins of Eriador??

I don't have the physical book on me at this time, but in the PDF, the stat blocks are totally different.
