Re: Rules-lite vs simulationist

@gryovague I'm replying to the original poster, who said to me, and I quote "at that point I'd almost question why you are buying the RPG in the first place." And later went on to say that maybe I shouldn't buy RPGs in the first place because I disagree with him. That is why I quoted his post to rep...

Re: Extremely Impressed

I ran Rolemaster back in the 80s, and thought it the height of authenticity. TOR 2E completely blows it out of the water.
Lol. Funny what you think looking back on younger days, right? Lol

Re: Rules-lite vs simulationist

What I am looking for is the most authentic experience. By authentic, I mean immersive. The rules need tp provide a framework to allow players to feel like they really are in the world. You need enough "skin" in the game to make it feel, in this case, like you're in Middle Earth. Every time you bre...

Re: Rules-lite vs simulationist

Look, I'm not saying anyone is wrong, I'm only stating my opinions for my group and our playstyle as its developed over 20+ years. You play your way, and I'll play mine. What I was attempting to say is that there are lots of options and one size does not and never has fit all. If a book has a table ...

Re: Ranged weapons : no distances in yards

Not saying anyone is playing wrong, but tbh I've never found ranges useful in other games either. One more thing to track that never has an impact

Re: Getting Excited for the Printed Materials!

I'm looking forward to it because the stapled chapters I'm flipping through now during play are a real pain. I have also noticed that none of the PDF's print quite fully, they always cut some of the bottom off, so the books will be nice. I do book binding as a hobby and was going to bind my own rea...

Re: Thoughts on the Cultural Virtues

And if not, not too hard to port. And no, I don't think it's a problem. Of course I don't agree that game makers should waste all their time focusing on things like balance anyway, when flavor is much more important. What do I mean? Simply that you can only balance effectively for one playstyle, whi...

Re: Rules-lite vs simulationist

Yes I agree with your points about hope and councils very much. Simulationist may have been the wrong word to use, but I didn't want to just put "I hate this gaem" in the title. It's absolutely ok to have a game that focuses on narrative choice, on role-playing decisions, and on these less numerica...
