I would like to know more about this. Ideally, I'd like to be able to come up with my own setting and/or campaigns and publish them...Hi, just wondering if we could have some updated info about the Open Gaming License - kind of like the direction you are heading?
Hi! Could you elaborate on this a little? How do you mean, direction?Hi, just wondering if we could have some updated info about the Open Gaming License - kind of like the direction you are heading?
Well, Wizards of the Coast created the first OGL specifically for D&D. You're using the same phrase, but what you end up producing will probably look different (since the existing one references Wizards of the Coast). During the Kickstarter, some questions were asked about what form it would take, and no answer was given at the time.Hi! Could you elaborate on this a little? That is absolutely the idea, yes! The only restrictions will likely be that a short license text is included on the title page and a small logo is placed on the back cover (or similar), apart from that, there should be no restrictions at all. The OGL PDF itself will contain a "core" rules engine, that can be used as a basis for your own designs. The details of the OGL are not worked out yet, but the above is the general idea.So the real question is - will we be able to commercially sell our own products that use the Year Zero engine? If yes, what restrictions will be in place (if any)?
Not 100% sure what you mean by "material", but hopefully some of the underlying mechanics of the other games are not forbidden (like the HP and MP pools, or weapons having Critical ratings from Coriolis). The only thing that is off limits is using specific setting-related material from our licensed games such as Mutant: Year Zero and Coriolis.
He says “setting-related” so I imagine he means, “don’t write about the Icons and/or the Syndicate, etc.”. Not what you are describing which are rule variants. Thanks for the clarification!

This is great news, exactly what I was hoping for and one of the main reasons I backed the KS myself. The rules are simple enough to begin with, but I assume the OGL will allow for 'House Rules' to be added to our own settings? That is absolutely the idea, yes!
