Grimoire?

Tue 12 Mar 2019, 09:25

The book itself didn´t say much about grimoires and how to gather them. Are they
  • everywhere buyable books,
  • seldom sold or given away books from magician to magician,
  • created in a ritual,
  • artifact-like tomes found in the old ruins of an ancient magic-weaver (and why have they to be filled again?)?

I think the intention is for GMs to decide this to suit their campaign. For me, they will be super-rare - either hoarded by magicians, or artifacts which can be occassionally found in suitable ruins. A sorcerer would be lucky to find one in a single one in my campaigns.
I make YZE games (https://drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?author=Matt%20Kay) and produce predominately Free League content on my YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@3skulls)

The only place you can find a grimoire is on a sorceror, but I think you can make one quite easily, with paper, a quill and one or more spells that you have already cast, plus a successful Lore roll. Given that magic in the game is reasonably risky, I am not going to make it complex for magic using PCs to make one. But once made you don’t given them up easy, so you don’t find them in shops. And you’ll have to prize the Sorceror’s from his cold dead fingers...
