Human origins

Tue 20 Mar 2018, 18:58

So this section explicitly says it's a myth, but still. The English version, page 3, says the followers of Wyrm were at sea for 3 generations (~60 years?). The Swedish says 3 lifetimes (~150 years?). Both figures seem absurd even for a myth. Is the planet some sort of gigantic Dyson sphere? :)

Ever heard of generation ships, Klas? ;-)

Anyway, Odysseus stumbled around for twenty years in a tiny ocean and Moses for forty years in a tiny desert, so why not? I do think this should be 60 years rather than three lifetimes though. Considering there's an archipelago along the way, this shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps the fugitives tried to settle here and there but had to leave again. This would probably be a story of its own and who knows – it might even get told someday.

Yeah yeah yeah :)
But then we learn that few of the refugees had ever seen land when they reached Solehaven. Something is amiss. The story arch is fine. Some of the details bother me.

Remember that story wherein two of every creature on the earth, except dinosaurs were rescued by a series of improbable boating events?  :D

OK, so let's say we change ”few” to ”many” and ”ever” to ”never”, keeping the final voyage over open water to 20 years (60 still being the total).

Eeerhh... Turning the details inside out doesn't really seem to change much :D

How about this? Every year they had had to give up on places they found along the way and when they reached Solehaven none of them had ever seen land. That should simply be impossible, which calls for theological bickering, which is automatically good.

Question about humans, more precisely the Aslenes origins. Did they come with the other humans on the ships or were they always there long before the shift?

I personally believe the Aslenes were there before the Alderlanders arrived from over the sea. The Aslenes might have arrived from the west. We don't really know but it might be clarified in the next expansion of the game to Aslene. The history of the setting is mostly written from the Alderlander perspective and might be not entirely accurate or the whole story.

So the history facts in the books are a bit biased...not surprising considering they are myths I guess. Interesting...thanks.
