Demons

Demons
There will be demons, I think? Are they roaming the land as they wish or have they to be summoned to enter the material world? Are there rifts that demonic entities could use to come to the FL without help? Is there a hell or abyss where they come from? And does such a place exists in the religion of FL?

Erik‘s answer
There will definitely be demons. They may be summoned, but as there was a significant leak historically, they are also roaming the land beyond control. My definition of a demon is basically ”something that shouldn't be here according to godly plans”, so you should think wider than strange creatures with extra limbs and nasty claws. For instance, I consider ”The Blood Mist” that recently lifted, making travel again possible, a demon

Clarification: My definition of a demon really should be ”something that shouldn't be IN THIS WORLD according to godly plans”.
Invaders aren't really demons although they certainly could be considered as such by the natives.

I like demons. And it seems that they are very important for the game as Zygofer has been transformed or has himself transformed into a demonic creature. The Red Mist is demonic. Like it. Are the demons more of the hellish sort or more Lovecraftian?

Personally I'm not that interested in the religious concept of a hell where people are sent on moral grounds, so my demons are more of the alien / horror sort – think Lovecraftian without the mythos and movies like The Mist (2007) or Cloverfield. This said, I don't see all demons coming from the same place or necessarily being predatory. Some might just be strange or try to make a living in a strange world, perhaps masquerading as humans. Also I see Zygofer using demonic techniques to modify and join existing creatures (black goo, anybody ;-) ), creating chimaeras, minotaurs etc. (Gulliksson's drawings that I worked from have a lot of these creatures and demonic revamping is a nice way to explain them).

For those who do not know his (Swedish language) work on the Femte Konfluxen/Svavelvinter setting (book series, campaign, stand alone RPG) I'd just like to flag that Erik's treatment and interpretation of Demons is outstanding.
Ebharing, Ghumgakk, the Horn Demons, (arguably) the Kaklun - all very unique and memorable.

By this,
I am reminded of the 'Lady of Pharis' manga for 'Record of Lodoss War'.

The way they set Demons was more of a mythical/arcane/otherworldly monster approach than in Christian Mythology/Lore...

Also the artwork was actually a perfect fit for FL, I think. Take a look:

Yes, I don't go for the Abrahamitic context here, which is connected to monoteism and good vs evil duality. Your links seem OK, but I try not to think antropocentric concerning demons – hard to tell for me if this is from these samples. Lovecraft is pretty good at not doing that as is the first Alien movie (aka ”before the Fall”)
