Quesation about Parrying done by Monsters.

Thu 27 Dec 2018, 16:24

As written in the GM Guide Page 74:
Monsters can themselves DODGE and, if they wield aweapon, also PARRY.

Does this mean that for example the Death Knight (pages 86-87) parries with twelve dice plus 2 dice from the Gear Bonus for a longsword?

This is a really good question.

To roll 14 dice for a monster like a Death Knight is not that extreme. There are other monsters when this could get out of hand (i.e. giant).

Yes, giants parrying is a bug in the rules. We recommend simply not allowing giants to parry. Stats and attacks for giants were not written with parrying in mind. It's not in their nature anyway! :)

Death Knight is meant to parry.

I know the book says if a monster has a weapon they can parry, but I read it to mean if they have a parrying weapon. Just like a PC, you can only parry with weapons that can do so, like swords. A club isn't a parrying weapon, whether for a PC or a giant. Plus if they could you'd never be able to touch the giant, heh.

You can parry with other weapons too, just with a -2 modification.

While players do kind of need ot be tactical when fighting in this game to stay alive, I feel this just makes it all the more appropriate for the GM to actually "role play" enemies rather than running them tactical as well.

Some enemies, like soldiers and fencers will absoloutly parry when suitable. Berserkers and brutes and such, maybe not so much.
