Cooking and Cauldrons

Tue 18 Sep 2018, 10:22

One of my players started with a Cauldron, which has a +1 gear bonus to cooking. I was under the impression that you needed the Chef talent or an Inn to be able to cook, he doesnt have either, and it doesn't require a skill roll. So how can he use the cauldron and what does the +1 gear bonus apply to?

(My initial thoughts were that he could cook 1 unit of food for himself from anything foraged, hunted, or fished, but that is it. If he then picks up the Chef talent he would be able to cook d6 +1 units of food.)

Starting with a cauldron is perhaps little bit of flavour to fit his background even though he technically have no use for it. Although, now when he has a cauldron, he is only three xp away from having use for it.

True but there isn't a skill roll involved in the cooking process, so what does the gear bonus add to?

Also, if there is no skill roll and no chance to push, the gear bonus will never degrade.

You right about that the rule doesn't say that  :o

I guess that I must have applied the MYZ rule for how the "Chef" talent works. Something that I will still apply. If you read the equipment it says +1 when cooking food so I think that this is how they intended it to work.

Simply that a success can cook d6 rations of food (per success). On a failure (GM's guide p11) I usually rule that d6 rations becomes inedible. In FbL you simply cook units of food instead and you get resource dice steps.

In MYZ you use the skill "Know the Zone" which is the MYZ version of Survival.
