Maybe, but it seems to result in them having fun, so I haven't gotten any complaints.

Then they will enjoy it even more when they are allowed to roll :)

I'll just jump in here real quick. Exactly how often you have players roll dice is a matter of personal preference - the only thing a GM should not allow is for players to roll (and push) rolls for meaningless actions where nothing is at stake, only to "milk" WP from the system. If nothing is at stake, don't roll. :)

What about things like foraging, fishing, making camp and keep watch at camp.  It seems like gathering resources is a big part of this game so if you don't have players roll for those things (giving them an opportunity to push) how do you decide if they succeed or fail?  I've only GM'd this game for one session (where mostly what we did was character creation) but I decided to end the night with having the players set up camp after their shipwreck event (in their story).  I just wanted to get a sense for the different roles they can take so I suggested we just do the evening and night quarter days.  Anyway, the players were eager to push these rolls because they knew evening was coming and in their minds there was little risk since they would recover after sleeping.

My plan is to have a night time event disrupt this first attempt at sleep and leave them sleepy and still with attribute damage to deal with.

But, based on what I'm reading here, should I not have had them roll for all of those activities?  (foraging, fishing, making camp, keeping watch, etc)

You should definately make them roll for camping, hunting etc, I wouldn't stop them from pushing these rolls with the promise of sleep coming up. I wouldn't interrupt their first night but I also wouldn't let them get complacent either, I would save a night time encounter for when it will be a dramatic surprise.

One of my players has hit upon the idea of spending a few days camping to generate WP, he suggested spending the start of a session with each player rolling a bunch of actions covering the three days to generate up to 10 WP each. But as the GM 1) I will play out the mundane of each day, making them roll when appropriate, and 2) There will be some encounters that mess up this meta-game plan.

Next time I run a campaign, I'm going to let my players start with 2 WP (only first session). It was pretty frustrating for my players when they had picked these talents that were unavailable for more than half of the session and relying on chance to start utilising their class.
