Re: Character Death and integrating new characters

Wed 23 May 2018, 10:05

So having skimmed through the Gamemaster Guide, it talks about allowing character death to happen to highlight the mortality of the characters but doesn’t include anything to aid a GM when the event actually occurs.  No guidance on introducing new characters to the group or how to stat up a replacement character, this sort of thing would be really useful and is something that crops up through any game where either a character dies or the player wants to change their character.

I would be particularly interested in clarifying how much additional XP a second character should start with compared to the established party, especially if the character in question was killed during the campaign.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Not to be harsh or anything, but I'd say no additional XP. You got yourself killed? Well, you sure as hell won't be rewarded for it.

Also, as a lot of people have already stated on the forums, it is quite easy to create a competent character from the start as is and XP is quite plentiful, so they'll catch up as long as they don't get themselves killed.

As for introducing a new character it shouldn't be that difficult to get the newly deceased included in the group. There are plenty of villages, towns, adventure sites and camps that may house potential recruits.

I don’t disagree but some guidance on how the designers intend this to work would be appreciated, this crops up for every game where a character dies and i would rather have guidelines than house rule it.
