What is dark birr?

Tue 10 Jan 2017, 00:54

I can't seem to find a description of dark birr, although it is mentioned in core rules and compendium.

Can anyone clarify what it is, or where I can find the info?

Thank you :)

From what I can gather, it's a mini-meteorite that can penetrate the hull of a ship, possibly causing decompression of a module.

It's as small as a single birr coin (although most people don't use coins but digital birr). And obviously black :) or that is what space farers think. Most black birr would rip straight thru the hull and out again.

That sounds a bit mundane though, it's the sort of thing that could just happen in space (it's the cause of all the problems in the movie "Pitch Black" after all). If it is "only" tiny lethal rocks why is it in the Myths section and why don't the Foundation understand them?

Hi!

The Foundation can't explain why the so called black birr turn up against all probability. There are to many occasions of ships being hit in deep space far away from gravity wells and far more often in ships with out temples or chapel-modules - as if the Icons suddenly would strike against certain ships.

They could of course publish studies saying, its just a micro-meteorite but the common folks and plebeians would know it isn't true and make this sign against the Dark between the Stars - at such blasphemy.

Hadra clouds are even weirder...

Hope that answers your question :)
