It’s not come up yet in any games I have run, but I would be pretty generous to the defender here with any improvised “weapon.” A bit of pipe, their rifle (not sure about pistol), a large spanner, could all be used to defend. I might not let them get the counterattack bonus effect though.

True, there could be a lot of dice rolling. We'll probably add a provision for opting to pick the average instead of rolling, i.e. 3,5 per D6. 1) a system where the style of the settlement is matters on rule level would be more fun. There should be differences between a war camp, a secret pirate port, a mercenary training ground, an occult grotto, and trading hub. I disagree with this.
