Re: More thoughts on names

Some short comments (I really don't want to be interpreted as ”the truth” here being the constructor, but instead encourage whatever you guys come up with that works!): * All names in one culture don't necessarily have the same basis. Some names probably stem from immigrants, different classes, merg...

Re: Druidic magic attracting demons

I don't think that's the kind of druids FbL is about... check out the introduction to Raven's Purge where Merigall shows the land to the former prisoner. They are custodians of the order of nature, rational professionals who take care to maintain balance, not bothering to mess with fawns and rabbit...

Re: Dwarven Arcitecture and Stonesinging

Perhaps stone engineering and stonesinging are two very hard practices to learn, so that few have the capacity and talent to master both? A butcher may be very good with a knife, but that doesn't make her a surgeon (well, in Ravenland I suppose it might do just that ;-) ). This way builders and ston...

Re: Pronunciation Guide?

I actually did record some pronounciation videos for my own setting Trachoria. However, I've always maintained that there is no one correct way to pronounce names in the setting since there are (which goes for Ravenland as well) numerous languages and dialects around (so andarp stands uncorrected ;-...

Re: Wailer's Hold

A possible twist would be that another dwarven clan tries to beat the Meromannians to ”liberating” Wailer's hold – probably the Canides or possibly the Crombes to get closer in preparing an assault on Vond. If the attempt is successful, the liberator's might well give Wailer's hold back to the Merom...

Re: Druids and the Maha-signs

Pelagia * * * SPOILER * * * below . . . . . . . . My original intention was that the Maha language should be commonly known by druids and in deed that they should be able to cast slow spells by formulating and writing what they wanted in the language (this was before there were any rules around). I ...

Re: Stonegarden and dwarf PC (small spoilers ahead!).

While I don't have a clear-cut answer to your question, my advise would be to make an adventure of the problem in itself. Perhaps your dwarves will have to conceal their true identities on the mission (think Ivanhoe as the mysterious knight ”Desdichado” at the tournament), perhaps masking as orcs OR...

What about read/write? Do we assume that everyone can read and write any language that they can speak?

I´d be surprised if anybody but learned people could read in Ravenland.

Dwarves

A question came up elsewhere about whether dwarves have dark vision. I gave a suggestion and thought it might be good to also post it in a settings post. Since I found no thread about dwarves, I made one. My answer on dark vision: ”To me it seems reasonable that the dwarves have some kind of dark vi...
